SKILLS FOR GAINFUL ENGAGEMENT FOR ADOLESCENT GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN
The Sewing Machine Project known as Skills for Gainful Engagement for Adolescent Girls & Young Women which is being implemented by Lake Region Development Program aims at equipping 300 adolescent girls and young women (15-26 years) with skills necessary for salaried employment or self- employment. The project is being implemented in the five program sites namely: Kenyenya, Rongo, Kuria, Kendu Bay and Rusinga.The trainings reached 300 girls with each site training 60 girls. Each site conducted 3 sessions each session having 20 girls. Attached are the training reports from each site. The youth were linked to the respective government offices with the youth office taking lead. The county and sub county youth officers encouraged the girls to seek the existing opportunities for the available government loans. They agreed to continuously support the girls in the enterprises.
