The Lake Region Development Programme comprises three (5) Community Based Organizations (CBOs) working with ChildFund Kenya. These are Rongo Child and Family Programme, Kenyenya Child and Family Programme, Kendu Bay Child and Family Programme Kuria Child and Family Programme and Rusinga Island Family Development Fund found in Rongo, Kenyenya/Gucha, Rachuonyo North, Kuria west and Mbita Sub Counties, of Migori, Kisii and Homabay counties respectively, some 400 km North West of Nairobi. The programme operation area borders Lake Victoria from the east and Republic of Tanzania to the south.

The total population of the Lake Region Development Programme, which comprises five sub counties, is 852,204 people. (408,776 male and 443,411 female and 17 unisex), covering an area of 1,119.5 square kilometers (table 1). 47.96% of this population represents the males while 52.03% are females and 0.01 unisex. (Kenya National Bureau of Statistics 2019). The major tribes or ethnic groups living in the area are the Luos (Rongo, Mbita & Rachuonyo North) , Gusii (Kenyenya/Gucha) and Kuria (Kuria west) Sub counties
